AS SOON AS POSSIBLE:

Activate your UMaine Accounts
Students accepted to UMaine should plan to regularly check their university email and MaineStreet portal. This is how you will receive important information from Admissions, Financial Aid, Housing, and other campus offices. You can find steps on how to activate your accounts on the Portal website. If you have any questions about your accounts you should contact the IT Support Center at 207.581.2506.

Complete your FAFSA
To be considered for financial aid at UMaine, you need to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and include UMaine on your FAFSA. You should do this as soon as possible after the FAFSA for the academic year you are applying for is available at www.fafsa.gov. If your FAFSA is already on file, we are able to consider you for financial aid as soon as you are admitted. For more information about filing your FAFSA visit UMaine’s FAFSA information web page. The University of Maine’s School Code for the FAFSA is 002053.

Confirm your Enrollment as soon as possible
Students enrolling in the spring semester are encouraged to confirm their plans to attend UMaine by January 1st or as soon as possible if they are accepted after January 1st.

Confirmation deposits can be paid with a credit card by calling the Office of Admissions at 207.581.1561 during regular business hours or online using the “Pay My Deposit” link on your MaineStreet student center.

Reach out to your Registration Contact

As a new transfer student it is important for you to talk with an academic advisor to learn how your transfer credits will count toward your UMaine degree requirements. You will also need a PIN in order to register for your first semester at UMaine. Each college and program has their own process for registration. Please contact your Transfer Registration Contact as soon as you have officially confirmed your plans to attend UMaine so you can start the registration process for fall. You are welcome to contact them anytime during the admission process if you have specific questions about your degree program at UMaine.

Check your “To Do” List in MaineStreet

Your “To Do” list in MaineStreet will let you know if the Admission or the Student Financial Aid Offices need any additional document from you to complete your application or to process your request for financial aid. Please check this frequently as it may change.

Visit UMaine

Now that you are admitted, it is a great idea to visit UMaine.  Just pick a date that works for you and sign up for a campus tour.  Contact  your registration contact to make an appointment to meet in person.  Visit the bookstore, the New Balance Recreation Center, the Library, feel free to explore the campus.

January Orientation: Move-In Day 
Move-in for new students starting in the Spring of 2020 will be the date selected for the January Orientation Session.

January 19: First day of spring semester classes at UMaine

Once here, there’s so much you can do.

  • Get involved. Choose from more than 200 diverse clubs and organizations.
  • Cheer for the Black Bears. Regular season home games are free with your MaineCard. For schedules, rosters and more info, visit goblackbears.com.
  • Get moving. Hike, bike, and ski on 15 miles of campus trails, or paddleboard and kayak on the Stillwater River.
  • Gaze at the stars. The state-of-the-art Emera Astronomy Center opens this fall, with a 33-foot dome and a 20-inch reflector telescope.
  • Be creative. The new Wyeth Family Studio Art Center has studios for painting and printmaking, and the Innovative Media Research and Commercialization (IMRC) Center has a laser cutter, 3-D printer, and video-production studios.

IMPORTANT DATES

JANUARY 1: Make plans to attend an Accepted Student Day
Attending an Accepted Student Day is a great way to get acquainted with campus. This all-day event will feature presentations on what incoming students need to know about their upcoming college experience at UMaine. Accepted Student Days are held during the spring semester. Invitations are normally sent out in January, or you can go to UMaine’s visit page for more information and to sign up to attend the Accepted Student Day for your major.

MAY 1: Traditional Candidates Reply Date

Transfer students admitted before May 1 are asked to confirm their plans to attend UMaine by May 1. Transfers accepted after May 1st should confirm their plans within two weeks of their acceptance to reserve their space at UMaine and to begin the registration process as soon as possible.

MAY 15: Make plans to attend New Student Orientation

Orientation for new students starting in the fall semester is held in June. Invitations and full details are typically sent out in early May. For more information, visit our Orientation page.

JUNE 1: Transfer Deadline to Apply for Financial Aid

To be considered for financial aid, you need to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and include UMaine on your FAFSA.

To receive full consideration, students starting in the fall should file their FAFSA by June 1st. FAFSA’s filed after June 1st will be considered on a funds available basis.

June 1: Submit your Final College Transcript

If you are attending classes in the spring, as soon as your spring grades are posted, you should request that your college send an official transcript to UMaine. Your spring courses and grades are needed to update your transfer credit and your final college transcript is necessary to complete your application for admission. If you are planning to take summer courses elsewhere, you will also need to request your final summer transcript be sent to UMaine as soon as your summer grades are posted.
