Scholarship Upgrade Information

First year applicants who are accepted early in the fall admission cycle may provide updated academic information to be considered for scholarship upgrades until June 1. Low-Credit Transfers with fewer than 30 credits at the time of admission may request scholarship re-consideration if the total number of college-level credits earned has increased to 30 or more college level credits. Requests for transfer scholarship reconsideration and upgrades will be considered until June 1 for fall applicants and until January 1 for spring applicants.

1 UMaine’s financial aid awards are based on the assumption than a student will enroll in 15 credits per semester. Aid will be reduced for students who enroll in fewer that 15 credits. Award adjustments are based on enrollment levels of 15+ credits (100%), 12-14 credits (85%), 9-11 credits (70%), and 6-8 credits (50%).

2 Flagship Award amounts will initially be based on estimated tuition & fee rates. Each year when tuition & fee rates are finalized for UMaine and the other flagship institutions, award amounts will be adjusted to actual.

3 Low-Credit Transfers are transfer students applying within one year of high school graduation or who have earned less than 30 college level credits after graduating from high school. Low-Credit Transfer students who do not submit SAT or ACT test results will be considered for the UMaine Leadership Award.

UMaine is pleased to offer the Flagship Match Scholarship1,2 for out-of-state transfer students entering in the Fall of 2019 and the Spring of 2020. The Flagship Match Program1,2 is a scholarship program guaranteeing that new academically qualified students from selected states will pay the same tuition and fee rates as they would at their home state’s flagship institution. All other new students will receive a competitive scholarship that will significantly offset the cost of non-resident tuition and fees at UMaine. Students will be awarded based on the combination of their Academic Credentials and Residency.

To qualify for a Flagship Match Award transfer students must submit a completed application by June 1. No FAFSA is required to receive the Flagship Match Award, but transfer students must file a FAFSA by June 1 in order to be considered for federal need-based aid. Students who qualify for the New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) regional student program are not eligible for a Flagship Match Award. Please see our NEBHE Award information for Transfer Students.

Please note: Any change to a student’s tuition status will result in adjustment of financial aid, including scholarships. This includes any waiver program or reciprocity agreement that results in non-resident students being charged the online or resident tuition rate.
