UMaine's Flagship Scholarship Program for Maine Residents 2019-2020 for Transfer Students

As the Flagship University for the state of Maine, UMaine supports Maine students with the following scholarships.

Every in-state transfer student admitted to the University is guaranteed at least a $1000 scholarship1 in either a Black Bear Award, one of the other awards listed below (if the student meets the specific award criteria), or Athletic scholarships, provided the student meets the Transfer admission application priority date of June 1. The Maine Match

UMaine will begin reviewing competing offers from other New England land grant institutions (UVM, UNH, UConn, UMass, URI) and will match the net cost of attendance*. Offer letters from these institutions only should be sent for consideration to Student Financial Aid, 5781 Wingate Hall, Orono, ME 04469, via email to famatch@maine.edu or via faxed to 207.581.3261. For questions, please call Student Financial Aid at 207.581.1324.

*Net cost of attendance is the cost of tuition & fees plus room & board, less any scholarships or grants offered directly from the institution. This does not include any federal or state aid that is offered. Awards including athletic aid may be submitted, but will be subject to a separate review process as we cannot guarantee a match of athletic scholarships.

Scholarship Upgrade Information

Low-Credit Transfers with fewer than 30 credits at time of admission may request scholarship re-consideration if the total number of college-level credits earned has increased to 30 or more college level credits. Requests for transfer scholarship reconsideration and upgrades will be considered until June 1 for fall applicants and until January 1 for spring applicants.

1 Merit scholarships are offered based on an enrollment of 15 credits per semester. Scholarships will be pro-rated to 80% of the full scholarship amount for students enrolled in 12-14 credits per semester. Student’s enrolled less than full-time (less than 12 credits per semester) are not eligible.

Low-Credit Transfers are transfers applying within one year of high school graduation or who have earned fewer than 30 college level credits after graduating from high school. Low-Credit Transfers who do not submit SAT or ACT test results will be considered for the Black Bear Award.
