UMaine Transfer Scholarships 2017-2018

Transfer awards are provided for students applying for admission for the fall semester.  They are renewable for up to 2 years if the renewal criteria are met. Students enrolling in 15 credits per semester are eligible for the full semester amount of their scholarship. For students enrolling in less than 15 credits the award amount will be pro-rated.

A FAFSA is not required to be considered for one of the Transfer Awards listed below. Students must file a FAFSA by the published deadline to be considered for need-based aid. Please note: any change to a student’s tuition status will result in adjustment of financial aid, including scholarships. This includes any waiver program or reciprocity agreement that results in non-resident students being charged the NEBHE (New England Regional Student Program) or Maine resident tuition rate.

In addition to the scholarships listed on this page, transfer students are eligible to apply for UMaine’s Visual and Performing Art Scholarships which have a scholarship and admission application deadline date of December 1stUMaine also offers selective scholarships for students meeting certain criteria; to be considered students must submit a selective scholarship application form which has a priority filing date of May 15 for the fall.

 

Maine Resident Transfer Students

For Transfer applicants who meet the Maine state residency requirements and qualify for Maine resident tuition. Please note: there are a limited number of Transfer Scholarships, Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships and ME Community College Scholarships available each fall.  Candidates for these scholarships will be reviewed based their academic achievement and the number of credits they have earned.  Candidates will only be eligible to receive one of the three transfer scholarships, in addition to the Maine Matters award.  Students completing their transfer application for admission through June 1st will be considered for transfer scholarships and awards, priority will be given to those who complete their applications prior to February 1st.

Maine Matters Award:  Transfer students who are residents of Maine will be awarded a $500 Maine Matters award annually ($250 per semester).  No additional application is necessary.  To be considered for a Maine Matters Award, students must submit their complete admission application by June 1 for the fall. Students enrolling in less than 6 credits per semester will not be eligible for the Maine Matters Award.

UMaine Transfer Scholarship: Available only for Maine resident students applying for admission to the fall semester. No additional application is necessary. To be considered for a UMaine Transfer Scholarship students must submit their complete admission application by June 1 for the fall, priority will be give to those who complete their applications prior to February 1st.  The UMaine Transfer scholarship is renewable for up to 2 years.  The number of awards varies each year and is competitive based on the applicant pool.  It is $1,500 annually ($750 per semester) for students enrolled in 15 or more credits each semester. Awards will be pro-rated if students enroll in 12-14 credits. Students enrolling in less than 12 credits per semester will not be eligible for this award.

Maine Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: Available only for Maine resident students applying for admission to the fall semester. No additional application is necessary.  To be considered for a Maine Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship, students must have been a member in good standing of the Phi Theta Kappa chapter at their community college as noted in their admission application materials, and submit their complete admission application by June 1 for the fall, priority will be give to those who complete their applications prior to February 1st. The Maine Phi Theta Kappa scholarship is renewable for up to 2 years.  The number of awards varies each year and is competitive based on applicant pool.  It is $1,500 annually ($750 per semester) for students enrolled in 15 or more credits each semester. Awards will be pro-rated if students enroll in 12 -14 credits. Students enrolling in less than 12 credits per semester will not be eligible for this award.

Maine Community College Scholarship: Available only for Maine resident students applying for admission to the fall semester. No additional application is necessary.  To be considered for a Maine Community College Scholarship students must be in good standing, have earned at least 20 credits at one of Maine’s Community Colleges, and submit their complete admission application by June 1 for the fall, priority will be give to those who complete their applications prior to February 1st. The Maine Community College Scholarship is renewable for up to 2 years.  The number of awards varies each year and is competitive based on applicant pool.  It is $1,500 annually ($750 per semester) for students enrolled in 15 or more credits each semester. Awards will be pro-rated if students enroll in 12-14 credits. Students enrolling in less than 12 credits per semester will not be eligible for this award.

 

Out-of-State Transfer Students

For transfer students who are not residents of Maine, are not participating in the New England Regional Student Program (explained below) and are assessed the non-resident tuition rate.

Flagship Award for Out-of-State Transfer Students: Available only for students applying for admission to the fall semester. No additional application is necessary.  To be considered for a Flagship Award, out-of-state transfer students must submit their complete admission application by June 1 for the fall.  The Flagship Award for transfer students is renewable for up to 2 years.  The award is $6,000 annually ($3,000 per semester) for students enrolled in 15 credits each semester. For students enrolling in 6-14 credits the award amount will be pro-rated.  Students enrolling in fewer than 6 credits will not be eligible for this award. New England Regional Student Program Transfer Students:

For transfer students who are residents of a New England State (NH, VT, MA, CT, and RI) and are participating in the New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE)’s Regional Student Program (RSP) under which qualified residents of the region may receive reduced tuition rates when attending college in another New England state. The major chosen must be one that is not available in the student’s home state (as approved by the public institution in the home state) and is available for the tuition reduction by the institution the student plans to attend. NEBHE Flagship Award for Transfer Students:  Available only for students applying for admission to the fall semester. No additional application is necessary. This award is in addition to the tuition break that students receive as part of the RSP. To be considered for a NEBHE Flagship Award, transfer students must submit their complete admission application by June 1 for the fall.  The NEBHE Flagship Award for transfer students is $2,000 annually ($1,000 per semester) for students enrolled in 15 credits each semester and renewable for up to 2 years. For students enrolling in 6-14 credits the award amount will be pro-rated. Students enrolling in fewer than 6 credits will not be eligible for this award.
