Overview and Registration Information

Hearty Maine Hello! Welcome to the Spring Orientation 2018 information page. This orientation program is for all new students (first-year and transfer) starting in the Spring 2018 semester. Spring Orientation is scheduled on Sunday, January 21st at the Memorial Union. To attend Spring Orientation, please click on the link below to register online. Tentative Agenda

We are planning many activities and events to welcome new students to the University of Maine community. Please note that events, times and locations may change. Students and guests will be given a final schedule upon arrival at the Memorial Union on Sunday, January 21st. Classes commence on Monday, January 22nd.

Sunday, January 21 
8:00 am – 4:00 pm Orientation Help Desk
Main Lobby, Memorial Union
Check-in and general assistance.
9:00 am – 10:00 am Opening Session
Hauck Auditorium
Welcome, schedule overview, and orientation checklist presentation.
10:00 am – 12:00 pm Commuter and Non-Traditional Students Open House
Wade Leadership Center, Memorial Union
Living off campus this semester? Meet other students who commute, make friends, and find someone to share rides. We have a great space and good resources for you.
10:00 am – 2:00 pm UMaine Community Fair
Ground Floor and Atrium, Memorial Union
Check out various student organizations, academic and student services. 
10:00 am – 11:00 pm Residence Hall Move-In
Students living on-campus may move-in during this time.
1:00 pm – 2:00 pm Managing Your College Finances
Bangor Room, Memorial Union
Representatives from Student Financial Aid, Student Employment, and the Bursar’s Office will be present to answer your questions.
2:00 pm – 3:00 pm Academic Coffee Hour
Bear’s Den Dining Area, Memorial Union
Join us for coffee or hot chocolate.  Meet faculty representatives and current students from your academic program. 
3:00 pm – 4:00 pm Transfer Students Meet & Greet
Bangor Room, Memorial Union
Meet other new transfer students. Representatives from the Admissions Office and Residence Life will be present to answer your questions.
5:00 pm Residence Hall Dinner
Meet at your residence hall lobby
Attend dinner with your Resident Assistant and other new students living in your hall.
7:00 pm – 11:00 pm Residence Hall Activities

Notes to Families

Family members are welcome to accompany their students to help them settle into their new home and participate in some of the events planned on Sunday, January 21st.

Directions to the Memorial Union

Traveling north on I-95: Take exit 191. Turn right onto Kelley Road. Turn left onto Route 2. Proceed to the third set of lights and then go straight for about two miles. Turn left onto the UMaine campus entrance just before the Bangor Savings Bank. Bear left at the fork and you will see the CCA and Belgrade parking lots. Signs will be posted directing students and guests to the Memorial Union.

Traveling south on I-95: take exit 193 and turn left onto Stillwater Avenue. Drive straight for one mile and turn right onto College Avenue. Drive one mile and turn left onto the UMaine campus entrance. Follow Long Road for about .5 miles, then turn right onto Flagstaff Road. At the end of Flagstaff Road, you will see the CCA and Belgrade parking lots.  Signs will be posted directing students and guests to the Memorial Union.

Parking Information

Students and guests may park at the CCA or Belgrade lots in front of the Collins Center for the Arts. Parking passes are not required for guests attending this event and parking at the CCA or Belgrade Lots. However, parking passes are required for other lots on campus and are available at the check-in area at the Memorial Union.

Helpful Tips

  • Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and weather appropriate gear. Please let us know when you register if you will need special accommodations as this program includes walking tours around campus.
