UMaine NEBHE Regional Student Program 2020-2021 for First-Year Students

The New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) has established the Regional Student Program (RSP) under which qualified residents of the region may receive reduced tuition rates when attending college in another New England state. The major chosen must be one that has been approved for the tuition reduction by the institution the student plans to attend. For a current listing of qualifying majors by state, please visit the NEBHE factsheet.

NEBHE Award Program Guidelines:

  • To qualify for a NEBHE Award, first-year students must be accepted into an eligible major
  • This award is in addition to the tuition break that students receive as part of the RSP.
  • Filing a FAFSA is not required to receive the NEBHE Award, but students are encouraged to file a FAFSA by March 1st in order to be considered for the maximum amount of financial aid funds.
  • Please note: Any change to a student’s tuition status will result in adjustment of financial aid, including scholarships. This includes any waiver program or reciprocity agreement that results in non-resident students being charged the resident tuition rate.

Award adjustments are based on enrollment levels of 15+ credits (100%), 12-14 credits (85%), 9-11 credits (70%), and 6-8 credits (50%).

Please visit the Office of Student Financial Aid’s website for additional information regarding enrollment based adjustments.
