Accounting
Maine Business School
Knowledge of accounting principles and their applications is fundamental to a career in business. Data from accountants is essential for planning, decisionmaking, and control. The practicing accountant is involved in supervising the preparation, interpretation, and reporting of economic data for management operations and the general public. Our accounting graduates are sought by accounting firms, public and private companies, nonprofits, and government entities for financial reporting, taxation, auditing, and business consulting.
The BSBA in accounting provides learners with an understanding of accounting concepts and techniques needed to pursue rewarding career opportunities in this professional field’s public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Accounting learners interested in pursuing the CPA designation can tailor their curriculum as such.
Accountants are experts in the organization and presentation of financial information to corporate stakeholders and internal business managers. Career paths for accounting majors include, but aren’t limited to, financial reporting, taxation, internal and external auditing, and business consulting.
Accounting is an in-demand degree, the pay is great, and, depending on the organization, there is the opportunity to travel the world or work closely with local businesses in your home community.
The UMaine accounting program provides learners with the opportunity to obtain an accounting education at an affordable price while at the same time maintaining rigor.
Some MBS accounting graduates choose to continue their education in graduate programs, including in the Graduate School of Business here at UMaine. Each fall, our accounting students have the opportunity to network and interview with statewide accounting firms. Many of our students use these events to learn more about the industry, find internships, and apply for jobs.
