Northern Maine Community College – UMaine Transfer Agreements - Undergraduate Admissions

At approximately 9:24 a.m. on Friday, April 19, a University of Maine graduate student was struck by a university vehicle on Long Road at the University of Maine campus in Orono. The student reports that they are at a local hospital with minor injuries.

Emergency services, including the Orono Fire Department, University Volunteer Ambulance Corps, University of Maine Police Department, Orono Police Department and Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

The university vehicle involved in the incident was a Chevrolet Express van. It was being operated by a university employee.

Counseling services and support are available for students, faculty or staff who may have been affected. The Counseling Center can be reached at 207-581-1392 and the Dean of Students Office can be reached at 207-581-1406.

The scene has been cleared and Long Road is now accessible. An investigation is being conducted by the University of Maine Police Department with assistance from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit. UMaine is proud to work with Northern Maine Community College (NMCC) to encourage NMCC students to consider continuing their education by earning a bachelor’s degree at UMaine.

Below are programs supported by UMaine and NMCC that are available to NMCC students.

AdvantageU

Participation in the AdvantageU program streamlines admission to UMaine for NMCC students graduating with an associate in arts degree in liberal studies.

Benefits of the agreement include:

Guaranteed admission at junior standing, when G.P.A. admission requirements are met.
Dual advising to ensure maximum transferability of community college courses.
Waiver of UMS application fees.

In many cases, students admitted to UMaine through AdvantageU are able to complete their baccalaureate degree within two years.

UM/MECCC General Education Block Transfer

The Transfer Block is a defined set of general education requirements that transfer into all University of Maine System and Maine Community College System institutions. Students who complete all the requirements of the Transfer Block will have completed the bulk of their general education requirements at all of Maine’s public institutions. Maine’s universities may require up to additional 11 credits of general education credits specific to their program, or to a specific bachelor’s degree. Completing the Transfer Block, however, does not guarantee admission to a particular university. For more information consult your adviser at NMCC.

Reverse Transfer

NMCC students who decide to transfer to UMaine before completing their Associate’s degree may be able to transfer courses from UMaine back to NMCC to complete and earn their Associate’s degree from NMCC. Students interested in a reverse transfer should contact their NMCC adviser for more information.
